Habitat volunteers essential in keeping build program going

Last year Habitat Niagara had four home builds scheduled to be completed however the global pandemic shut down the construction program for a few months. With the challenges throughout the year we were grateful to complete one house in Port Colborne, thanks to our wonderful volunteers!

Typically, there are three groups of people who help build Habitat homes, the trades, Habitat Build Day participants and our construction volunteers. In 2020 we could not resume our Habitat Build Day program due to COVID-19 (which accounts for multiple days of various teams onsite helping to build the house) which left the completion of the build to our Construction Manager and his crew of construction volunteers.

“Our construction crew volunteers are essential to our build program at the best of times, in the worst of times they have proven to be the failsafe,” explains Craig Brown, Habitat Niagara Construction Manager. “Thank you to everyone who has been able to help our house builds move forward. You are amazing!”

Chantel and her daughters will move into their new home in Port Colborne this year.
