Fourth Habitat house dedicated in Welland

Our fourth Habitat house in Welland out of the five houses built as part of Habitat Niagara’s 25th anniversary multi-build project was dedicated in a small ceremony yesterday. Gordon and Gaynor are the proud new homeowners who purchased the house for a no money-down, twenty year 0% mortgage and completed their 500 volunteer hours with Habitat.

“Us receiving this blessing of a house has, even now, changed our lives considerably,” said Gaynor. “Knowing that Habitat was willing to partner with us has given us a renewed confidence that we ‘could’ have our own home.”

They were filled with joy as they looked around knowing that this house was theirs. Our three ReStore managers and MP Vance Badawey handed the keys over to the family for them to begin their new journey.

Gordon presented Habitat Niagara with a framed poem he wrote about their life’s journey.

Life’s journey

On our life’s journey
we had to run against winds,
while we tried to find our way.

On our life’s journey
we pushed through again and again,
to get back to our feet to stay.

On our life’s journey
God sent habitat,
said build a house to be a home
So they know that on their Life’s journey
They don’t journey alone.

“The impact to our family is simply knowing that we have something to leave for our three children,” explains Gordon. “Where as we would most likely not be able to do otherwise - and something we can call our own. Thank you Habitat for Humanity!”
