Presenter Biography

Since 2001, Vickie Komar has been providing these workshops to community professionals and educators who work with individuals and families from generational poverty. She lives in LaSalle, ON and is currently employed by the Greater Essex County District School Board as the Supervisor of Social Work.

Children and families affected by poverty are at risk for a range of negative effects and long-term outcomes. How can professionals and communities work to assist low-income children and their families?

Registration is FREE and lunch will be provided on the day. 

This one-day workshop will create a mental model of poverty, examine a theory of change and analyze poverty through the prism of the hidden rules of class, resources, family structure, and language. Explicit and specific strategies will be presented for improving outcomes. The workshop will address how to use this information to redesign programs for enhanced outcomes in agencies and communities.
