Home #31 - 2010 Welland, Niagara College Build

On October 5, 2009, World Habitat Day, we began construction of another home as part of the City of Welland’s community improvement plan. This is the first of three single, custom-built, bi-level homes to be developed on what was previously a city-owned parking lot.

Sixty Niagara College Construction Technology students will fulfill their lab requirement by building this house for future homeowner Ledi Welo Lokole and her five children. The family came to Canada in 2005 from the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The Rotary Club of Welland and Mapleview Charities each stepped forward with a $10,000 donation to this project. Niagara Regional Housing (NRH) provided downpayment assistance for the family through Welcome Home Niagara, which is funded by the Canada-Ontario Affordable Housing Program.

Additional construction support was provided Rankin Construction, Cotton Construction, and Dufferin Concrete.

The construction schedule calls for completion of this home at the end of April. A home dedication event is planned for early Summer to officially turn over the keys to the Welo family.

Thank you to all of our National and Local donors. Click to see list.
