In the fall of 2008, we began construction on home #28 in Welland.  Niagara College was the building partner for the house located on Michigan Street in Dain City, Welland, with the generous assistance of the International Brotherhood of Electricians and other trade organizations.

Canadian Tire Financial Services provided funding to build the home along with Niagara College Events Management students. The students hosted various community fundraising events and raised $15,000.

Home Depot provided a sustainable building grant, and the land was donated by the United Church of Canada. Over the years, the number of members in the church’s Michigan Street congregation had decreased, and that church was forced to close its doors. The church decided to give back to the community, first by donating property for a partnership build with DSBN in 2006, and again in 2008 by donating the property at 11 Michigan Street.

This was our first EnergyStar certified home and it was completed in June, 2009.
