Founded in 1993, Habitat for Humanity Niagara started as a local grassroots organization. With the help of a group of very dedicated volunteers and a handful of corporate donors, Habitat Niagara began by building on average one home per year.
All of this changed in 2006, when Habitat Niagara gained a new CEO and undertook the challenge of building affordable homes at a greater rate.
In 2008, thanks to the hard work of our senior staff, continued support of our dedicated volunteers and the generosity of our donors, we built a record five homes in one year.
In 2009, Habitat Niagara joined the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) on a mission to fund and build more Habitat for Humanity homes internationally. For every home we build in the Niagara Region, we fund the construction of four additional homes in developing countries around the world.
By 2013, we will have built another 20 new homes in Niagara. It is through community partnerships and sponsorships that we will achieve our fundraising and construction goals. We want to hit a BIG milestone by our 20th Anniversary and say we have built 50 homes in Niagara! We are on our way. Join us!
