About Us

Our mission is to transform the lives of the parents and children that become Habitat home owners. In so doing, we not only radically improve their lives but also transform the communities in which they live, and the people and organizations that volunteer their time, effort, skills, caring and money to make our mission a reality.

Established in 1993, Habitat for Humanity Niagara is a non-profit organization dedicated to the elimination of poverty by building homes in partnership with our community and families in need. We welcome all people without discrimination to join us as we build safe, decent, and affordable houses.  We provide no-down-payment, interest-free mortgages to qualifying families who would otherwise not be able to purchase their own home. Following Habitat's credo, we provide "a hand up, not a hand out".

Our program is founded on people helping people, on partnerships that cross ideological, political and theological lines. Habitat for Humanity successfully works in collaboration with local civic groups, community leaders, businesses and community volunteers from all walks of life.

We achieve our mission through donations from individuals, corporations, and community associations.  These donations go directly towards building homes with families in need. Our administrative and fundraising costs are paid for by the operation of our ReStore.

Habitat for Humanity Niagara's ReStore sells donated new and used building materials and home improvement items to local contractors and do-it-yourselfers. The ReStore concept is very GREEN, as we annually divert product that was destined for landfill. Since opening in St. Catharines in 2000, we have diverted over 3,000,000 pounds. The resulting revenue supports our affiliate overhead costs, making the organization sustainable.

Habitat for Humanity Niagara is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity Canada, which is a member of Habitat for Humanity International – the largest not-for-profit home builder in the world.
